Bromo Tengger Semeru National Park: Located to the east of Malang in East Java, this is the only conservation area in Indonesia having a sand sea across the caldera of an ancient volcano. The park contains the highest mountain in Java, Mount Semeru, four lakes and 50 rivers.
A unique place to visit at sunrise. The horse ride to the crater the look into the crater is both amazing and scary. You can get small bouquets of flowers to throw in as offering. Alternatively, you can also climb the 200 steps stairs. Also the Penanjakan view point 2 is better than view point 1. Go in the dry season when the road is in better condition.
Sempu Island: A small island located in the south of Java. This island is actually a nature reserve to protect endemic flora and fauna. So tourists must have a permission from the forestry officer near the island to enter the island. Renting bike from Malang is the best option to reach Sempu Islamd. Also there are no public transportation available after 5pm yet, so plan accordingly. The Segera Anakan beach is part of the Sempu Island. This beach comes highly recommended for people who are looking for tranquility amidst a less crowd.
